Celebration of the National Holiday in Oriahovo

On 3rd March the 137th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman domination was celebrated in Oriahovo. On this day (19th February, old style) the San Stefano Peace Treaty was signed between Russia and Turkey establishing the restoration of the Bulgarian state.

On this occasion in "Prof. Marin Varbanov" Art Gallery was displayed an exhibition entitled "Bulgaria Through My Eyes" - presenting works of school children. The purpose of the exhibition was for school children to be given the opportunity to express their national pride and Bulgarian spirit through pictures, inspired by the beauty and rich history of their country. Children were able to work on several subtopics, as follows:

  • for the 1st age group - from second to fourth grade - "My Native Region" and "Landscape from My Bulgaria";
  • for the 2nd (5th to 7th grade) and 3rd age group (8th and 9th grade) - "We are Bulgarians First of All" and "You are Bulgaria".

 

  

The exhibition was opened by Evgeniya Naydenova, Director of the Historical Museum. The curator of the Gallery, Vladimir Vladimirov, presented students' works, emphasized the contribution of particular schools and described the specific features of the works belonging to different age group, also expressing gratitude to the participants and their teachers.
The exhibition contains 90 paintings, the majority of which created by students from "St.St. Cyril and Methodius" Elementary School, Oriahovo. Next come "Hristo Botev" Comprehensive School, Oriahovo, "N. Y. Vaptzarov" Elementary School, village of Selanovtzi, "Hristo Botev" Primary School, village of Ostrov,  "Lyudmila Zhivkova" Children's Centre, Oriahovo. The exhibition was attended by the Mayor of the Municipality of Oriahovo, Rossen Dobrev, municipal councillors, teachers and citizens.

 

The celebration continued at "Diko Iliev" Square. After the national flag was raised, the attendants of the event were greeted by the Mayor, who delivered a speech dedicated to the national holiday. Wreaths expressing gratitude to the Romanian soldiers who perished for the liberty of Bulgaria were laid at their Monument on behalf of the Municipality of Oriahovo, Municipal Council - Oriahovo, Mayor's Office - Village of Leskovets, Historical Museum - Oriahovo, "Hristo Botev" Comprehensive High School, "St.St. Cyri and Methodius" Elementary School, "Dr. Petar Beron" Elementary School, "Druzhba" Kindergarten, "Prolet" Unified Kindergarten, "Lyudmila Zhivkova" Children's Centre, "Nadezhda 1871" Community Centre, Home Care Centre - Oriahovo, "Detelina" Pensioner's and Disabled People's Club - Oriahovo, Political Party GERB -Oriahovo.


The culmination of the celebration was the spectacle at the Community Centre entitled "To You, Bulgaria" and the concert of String Quartet "Intro".
