HISTORICAL MUSEUM – ORIHOVO PARTICIPATED IN THE EUROPEAN DAYS OF CULTURAL HERITAGE
These days date back to 1985, when the French Minister of Culture suggests a successful French experiment of free admission to cultural heritage be introduced in other countries as well. Since 1991 the European Days of Cultural Heritage have been a joint project of the EU and the Council of Europe. Bulgaria becomes an active participant in 1999, and the Museum of Oriahovo joins in 2008. This year, in connection with the theme “Heritage and Nature. A Landscape of Opportunities”, Historical Museum – Oriahovo presented An Excursion to the Past, at which the results of the archeological excavations carried out in 2016 were displayed. The event took place in the “By the River” Hotel, close to the archeological site. In the excavations participated Evgeniya Naydenova, PhD and Denitsa Petrova, PhD, from Historical Museum – Oriahovo, the scientific consultant Assistant-prof. Valeri Grigorov, PhD from the Institute of Archeology at Bulgarian Academy of Science, Nadezhda Atanasova – Timeva and Mariya Hristova from the Institute of Experimental Morphology, Pathology and Anthropology at BAS. During the excavations three graves from the Ottoman period were found. A layer containing antique ceramics was also explored. Beneath the graves remains of a wall from the Early Iron Period were discovered.
