120th ANNIVERSARY OF DIKO ILIEV

Composer Diko Iliev is not only a great artist but a person with an exceptional fate. He goes through numerous hardships to deserve his place in the history of brass music and that of Oriahovo.

 

 

On 15 February, citizens of Oriahovo and visitors to the town commemorated his memory. The solemn ritual of placing wreaths and flowers in front of his bas-relief at the square bearing his name in the centre of the Danube town was performed with the accompanying tunes of the Representative brass band of Bulgarian infantry - Sofia, conducted by Chief Lieutenant Todor Penkov.

The event continued in Arena-Oriahovo Hall with the participation of ‘’Diko Iliev’’ Brass Orchestra conducted by Kuzman Kuzmanov, the Representative brass band of Bulgarian infantry - Sofia, conducted by Chief Lieutenant Todor Penkov and the Historical Museum in Oriahovo.

The spectators could also enjoy the performance of cheerleading ensemble Aleksandriyka and dance ensembles May Flowers and Spring at Nadezhda 1871 Community Center. The guests of the event were greeted by Youth Brass Band at the Centre of Personal Development “Liudmila Zhivkova” – Oriahovo with conductor Nikolay Peev.

Official guest of the event was Atanas Karaivanov, author of the book “Diko Iliev”. For his 30th anniversary as a conductor and his contribution for the development of brass music in Oriahovo the conductor of Diko Iliev Brass Orchestra Kuzman Kuzmanov received a plaque from the Mayor of Oriahovo – Rossen Dobrev.
